FOR THIRD-YEAR STUDENTS

HIGH-THROUGHPUT MICRO/NANO ENGINEERING LAB
Last updated: October 13, 2026
The High-Throughput Micro/Nano Engineering Laboratory (Nagai Lab) at Toyohashi University of Technology welcomes students, researchers, and prospective collaborators. Our work combines microfabrication, microfluidic devices, cell manipulation, measurement, image analysis, and machine learning.
FOR THIRD-YEAR UNDERGRADUATES
Third-year students are welcome to arrange a lab visit. You can see our facilities, learn how research projects are conducted, and speak with us before choosing a laboratory. You do not need a finalized research topic to visit.
Formal placement into undergraduate research follows the university’s procedures and eligibility rules.
We work across mechanical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, chemistry and life sciences, and computer and information sciences. Previous specialization does not need to match your proposed research topic exactly.
Microfabrication, microfluidic channels, CAD, 3D printing, and device design
Sensors, microscopy, laser-based methods, image acquisition, and instrument automation
Cell manipulation, cell culture, biomaterials, controlled microenvironments, and cellular assays
Python, image processing, machine learning, data analysis, and experimental optimization
Applicants with backgrounds in architecture, civil engineering, or related fields may also inquire when their interests overlap with measurement, materials, design, or optimization. Admission and placement are subject to university eligibility and the lab’s capacity.

Participation in project-based research may be possible, subject to the university’s arrangements.
Third-year students are welcome to visit. Undergraduate research normally begins in the fourth year following formal laboratory placement procedures.
Prospective students from KOSEN advanced courses, other universities, and different academic disciplines are welcome to discuss potential research projects before applying.
Contact Professor Nagai before applying to discuss research topics and potential supervision. Working professionals pursuing a doctorate while employed may also inquire.
TUT is planning a reorganization of its master’s program structure for the 2027 academic year. For current admission categories, eligibility requirements, and placement rules, consult the official admission guidelines.
Vacancies depend on available positions and project requirements. Duties may include experimental and technical support; involvement in research is determined by the specific role.
We welcome inquiries about hosting JSPS Postdoctoral Fellows (PD). Other postdoctoral vacancies may be offered when funding and positions are available.
We welcome collaborative research and technical inquiries from universities, research institutions, and industry.
Research internships and practical training for students from colleges of technology (KOSEN), including advanced courses, may be arranged depending on timing and capacity.
Contact Professor Moeto Nagai with a short introduction to your background and research interests. If you would like to visit, please include your institution, year of study, and possible dates.
