Four international students’ first poster presentation at FT2024 Sendai. It can be stressful when language barriers limit the number of visitors they can interact with.

To address this, they considered effective presentation styles, incorporating actual devices, videos, and partial Japanese language elements. Looking forward to their next presentation.

その分、実物やビデオ、部分的な日本語も活用し、効果的なスタイルを考えていました。次の発表に期待です。

初日は4人が集まり、こけしの前で記念撮影。仙台国際センター周辺を3周、3kmを完走。夜の打ち合わせとは違う爽やかな交流ができました。LINEグループも作って、これからの参加者増加に期待大です

Inspired by Hashimoto-san, we launched the conference’s first morning jogging club, curious about who would join us in Sendai’s chilly dawn.

Four runners gathered on our inaugural day for a photo by the Kokeshi monument. We completed three laps of Nishi Park, covering 3km. This energizing morning activity was a welcome alternative to evening meetings. We’ve created a LINE group and look forward to growing our jogging community!

From Nov 25, we’re hosting a conference at Sendai International Center. The main hall looks perfect with final checks done. Exhibition booths and poster panels are being arranged smoothly – everything is coming together nicely.

In the evening, four committee members shared local Sendai specialties while reviewing preparations and planning next year’s conference. Whatever will be, will be.

6年ぶりに、家族で浜松市の北にある浜北森林アスレチックへ。ここには40個もアスレチックがあるんです。まともにやると2時間かかります。

大人で全部やっている人は見なかったな。私は？もちろん自分は全部楽しむ人です。あと30年後も全部できる体力が残っているといいな 。研究教育も含めて💪

After six years, I took my family to Hamakita Forest Athletic Park in northern Hamamatsu City. With 40 different athletic obstacles taking two hours to complete, it’s quite a challenge.

While most adults skip some obstacles, I’m the type who enjoys trying everything! I hope to maintain this energy to tackle all these activities even 30 years from now, for both my research and teaching career 💪.

学会前の朝ラン🏃‍♂️ 2日目かつ最終日です。大学時代にフラフラしていたエリアは、大須、上前津、鶴舞なんです。

懐かしい大須観音🛕矢場とん🐷すがきや大須店🍜,鶴舞公園🏞️を走って巡りました。この辺りは時代に合わせて変わっているけど、本質はそのままですね。そういう変わらない価値を追い求めたいです。

🏃‍♂️ During my morning run before the conference on its second and final day, I visited the areas where I used to hang out during my university days – Osu, Kamimaezu, and Tsuruma.

I jogged past nostalgic spots like Osu Kannon Temple 🛕, Yabaton 🐷, Sugakiya Osu 🍜, and Tsuruma Park 🏞️. While these areas have evolved with time, their essence remains unchanged. This is the kind of timeless value I want to pursue in life.

アメリカの研究者と交流し、生物材料の外部委託による効率的な研究スタイルを学びます。私がやりがちな自前主義とは異なる視点を得ます。今後に活かそう✨
I attended the CBS conference banquet on Lucent Tower’s 40th floor in Nagoya. The night view was breathtaking, with illuminated Nagoya Castle to the east and the station square’s green lights to the south.

I engaged with American researchers. They taught their efficient approach to outsourcing biological materials, offering fresh insights beyond my traditional in-house methods ✨

学会、朝ランの12km完走🏃ナゴヤドーム、三菱電機、徳川園、名古屋テレビ塔を巡りました。

この三菱電機は20年前、学部生時代にFA関連製品を見学させてもらいました。後に友人から、ここが花形部署だと教えてもらったことを思い出します。懐かしさと再発見が入り混じる、充実の学会前の朝の運動でした。
I completed a 12km morning run 🏃 before the conference, visiting Nagoya Dome, Mitsubishi Electric, Tokugawa Garden, and Nagoya TV Tower.

At Mitsubishi Electric, I recalled my undergraduate visit 20 years ago to see their FA products. Later, a friend told me this was actually their prestigious division. This morning run became a fulfilling pre-conference exercise, mixing nostalgia with rediscovery.

名古屋大学の学会CBS 2024で微生物サイボーグ🦠の招待講演を行いました👨‍🔬 正直には、最高の準備ではなかったのです。

ですが、学生に用意してもらったミドリムシの動画が良く、結構ウケました。材料の良さ、資料の構成が大事で、作戦勝ち。開催されたEI創発工学館の8Fからの眺めも良いです。

🦠👨‍🔬 I gave an invited talk on Microorganism Cyborgs at CBS 2024, Nagoya University. To be honest, my preparation wasn’t perfect.

However, the Euglena video prepared by my students was well-received by the audience! Good materials and presentation structure made it work. The view from the 8th floor of the EI Innovation Building was spectacular.

🇸🇬シンガポールでの激闘の2週間、終了。🇨🇳いま気温0℃の北京で羽田便を待ちながら、少し一息。仕事モード全開で、収穫がありました。また日本の研究室の皆さんや家族に会えるのは楽しみです。

After an intense two weeks in 🇸🇬Singapore, mission accomplished! Taking a breather at 0°C in 🇨🇳Beijing while waiting for my Haneda flight. It’s been full work mode, but definitely worthwhile. Can’t wait to see my lab members and family back in Japan!

走るだけだと、飽きがあるし、板麺も食べたいところ。SUTDから西に3km離れた肥佬板面まで走って到着。板麺は🍜きしめんと塩ラーメンを融合したような優しい味わい。あっさりとしたスープに香ばしい揚げ雑魚がアクセント。
4.5SGD(520円)という破格値で、帰国前の元気をチャージ。
Running alone can get a bit monotonous, and I was craving some ban mian. After a 3km run west from SUTD, I arrived at Fei Lou Ban Mian. The noodles 🍜 had a gentle blend of Japanese udon and salt ramen flavors. The light broth was perfectly complemented by crispy fried anchovies.
At just 4.50 SGD (around 520 yen), it was a great deal and the perfect energy boost before heading back home.
