京都大学は、京都駅から近いわけではありません。それを逆手に取ります。

共同研究ミーティングへ向かう道中、爽やかな冬空の下、鴨川沿いを6kmジョギング。柳と紅葉が織りなす季節の風景を楽しめて、気持ちの良い運動でした。研究成果と健康づくり、一石二鳥が嬉しいです。

Kyoto University is far from the station, but I saw an opportunity.

Jogging 6km along the Kamo River to a research meeting, I enjoyed the crisp air and stunning autumn colors. What a joy – exercising and advancing research at once!

1年、過酷な日々だった。それが年内最後の重い仕事が消えた。
久しぶりの休日らしい休日。自分のCPUの使用率が低い。豊川で刺身定食を味わい、東三河ふるさと公園の展望台を登る。夕寝という贅沢。
これらが回復には理想的でしたね。
It had been a tough year. Finally, my last big project was done.
I enjoyed a real day off in a while. My CPU usage was down. I savored a sashimi set meal in Toyokawa, then climbed up to the observation deck at Higashi-Mikawa Furusato Park. Even treated myself to an afternoon nap – what luxury!
These simple pleasures were ideal for my recovery.

昨日の学会、助教の先生と近くの喫茶店「カプチーノ」でお昼を食べました。 入るとゲームのテーブルが現役でした。ランチが炊き込みご飯、餅入りカレーコロッケの和食の組み合わせで面白い。「こういう喫茶店が大学近くにもあると嬉しい」と話が盛り上がりました。レトロ感が楽しめ、2倍ゆっくり時間が流れる感じが◎

At yesterday’s conference, I had lunch with an assistant professor at “Cappuccino,” a nearby café. We found a retro arcade table. Our lunch was an interesting mix of Japanese fusion: seasoned rice and curry croquettes with mochi inside. “We need a café like this near our university,” we agreed, enjoying the nostalgic atmosphere. Time seemed to flow twice as slowly, perfect for a break.

I attended the Hyper-Interdisciplinary Conference 2024 Toyohashi Forum at Toyohashi Science Core.
Lakshmi Krishnan and Donia Dominic from our laboratory presented their research. While most presentations were in Japanese, they confidently delivered their talks in English. It was great to discuss their nanoparticle synthesis here in Toyohashi.
豊橋サイエンスコアで開催の「超異分野学会2024 豊橋フォーラム」に参加。研究室からはLakshmiさん、Doniaさんが発表してくれました。日本語の発表が多い中、雰囲気に負けずに英語で発表してくれました。豊橋でもナノ粒子合成の話ができて良かったです。

複雑な方がレベルが高いと思いきや。

•午後：3Dプリンタ改造の成果 – シンプルな方式が大成功👍

•夜：NHKでABBAドキュメンタリー視聴 – 素直な感情を歌って大ヒット🎵

合同の卒論発表会に参加。ある学生の発表の結論で、失敗して収穫が0だったと💭0ではなくて、もっと良い風に言えるのでは？

大学研究室のKPIは、①研究費、②教育、③研究論文です。3つが同程度で重要。

この1週間で、論文2報が再投稿できました👏どちらも大学院生が頑張ってくれたものです。研究論文執筆の重要性を把握しているメンバーが多ければ、その組織は強いでしょう。書く姿勢を持つ人たちはありがたいです👩🏻‍🎓

The key performance indicators (KPIs) in our lab are research funding, education, and research publications – all equally important.

This week, we resubmitted two research papers, thanks to our graduate students’ dedication.👏 A laboratory grows stronger when its members understand the value of research publication. I’m grateful for students who are committed to the writing process.👩🏻‍🎓

京大からお客さん来訪。全実験室を案内しました。豊橋技科大のリソースをどう活用するか？🤔と話し合います。
我々はデバイスや装置開発が一番得意ですね。業者を介さずに、自分たちで中身を操作できるのが強みです。それがロボコンにも現れてます🤖
夕食までお付き合いいただき、理解が深まって嬉しかったです😊
I welcomed visitors from Kyoto University and showed them around our laboratories. We discussed how we should utilize Toyohashi Tech’s resources. 🤔
We excel at device and equipment development – being able to customize and maintain equipment in-house without relying on vendors. This capability is clearly demonstrated in our robotics competitions! 🤖
I was pleased that our dinner together deepened our mutual understanding. 😊

トルコ人の友達からメールだ。用件の前に「12月の日本の忘年会とイルミネーションが懐かしい」って言ってました🎄

ただ忘年会はコロナ禍を経て、減りましたよね。イルミネーションは豊橋駅でも頑張っていて、人だかりも多いです。こういうLED電飾のデザインと技術は、心温まりますね🥰

I received an email from my Turkish friend. Before getting to the main topic, he mentioned feeling nostalgic about Japanese year-end parties and illuminations in December 🎄.

While year-end parties have decreased since the COVID-19 pandemic, the illuminations are still going strong at Toyohashi Station, drawing large crowds. This kind of LED illumination design and technology is heartwarming 🥰.

しばらく住んだ熱帯のシンガポールは、一年中気温がほぼ一定。温帯にある日本は、夏冬の寒暖差が強い。そこで面白いのは紅葉です🍁

日曜日に家族で普門寺もみじまつりに参加。豊橋の紅葉は、12月初旬でしたか。秋ではなくて、冬でないと見られないものですね。自然の移り変わりは美しいですね😊

While Singapore maintains a constant tropical temperature year-round, Japan experiences dramatic seasonal changes between summer and winter. What’s fascinating is the autumn foliage 🍁.

My family visited the Fumon-ji Temple Maple Festival today. In Toyohashi, the maple leaves turn color in early December. Rather than autumn, we must wait until winter to see this beautiful transformation. Nature’s transitions are truly beautiful 😊
