高専体験実習報告会をオンラインで開催しました。シンガポールから参加しましたが、学生の理解度確認と学びの深化に繋がりました。新居浜高専の学生2名とメンターのRafiaさん、参加ありがとうございました。

We held an online report meeting for the National Institute of Technology internship experience. Although I participated from Singapore, it led to confirming the students’ understanding and deepening their learning. Thank you to the two students from Niihama National Institute of Technology and mentor Rafia for participating.

研究室の学生と一緒に食事をしました。新居浜高専から高専体験実習として、当研究室に2名が滞在します。TA1名のRafiaさんが手伝ってくれます。そして9月に博士課程を修了するVenkateshさんもいます。皆さんの有意義な滞在を願っています。

I had a meal with the students from our laboratory. Two students from Niihama National College of Technology are staying at our lab for a technical college experience program. Rafia, one of our Teaching Assistants, is helping out. Also present is Venkatesh, who will be completing his doctoral program in September. I hope everyone has a meaningful stay.

日本ハイパーサーミア学会、ご招待ありがとうございました。発表無事終了。臨床医との交流が新鮮で面白かったです。レーザーの可能性を再認識。
やや難しさがあったか、次回は資料をより単純に。
Thank you for the invitation to the Japan Society for Thermal Medicine. My presentation was completed successfully. The interaction with clinicians was refreshing and interesting. I rediscovered the potential of lasers.
The materials seem difficult for the audience. Next time, I’ll make my materials more simple.

博士学生の審査が合格し、研究費も採択されました。二重の祝杯を上げられるはずです。しかし、私の頭の中には「未投稿論文」と「新しい仕事」という2つの課題が浮かび上がりました。

これは、ケーキやステーキを前に置かれて、「美味しそう！」と「カロリー消費のために走らないと」を同時に考えてしまうようなものです。

A doctoral student passed his review, and I also secured research funding. This should call for a double celebration. However, two challenges immediately surfaced in my mind: “unpublished work” and “new work responsibilities.”

It’s like being presented with a cake or steak, and simultaneously thinking, “Looks delicious!” and “I’ll need to go for a run to burn off those calories.”

昨日に引き続き、ミッドランドスクエアで豊田理研の会合。2024年度スカラーのフラッシュプレゼン40件聴講。
化学メインだが工学もちらり。経歴を見れば、1990年代生まれ多く、10年前の自分を見る気分。
数年の研究を3分に圧縮されるのは超高密度。いくつかの情報でも活用して、良い研究をしたいね。
Continuing from yesterday, attended Toyota Riken meeting at Midland Square. Listened to 40 flash presentations by 2024 Scholars. Mainly chemistry, with glimpses of engineering. Looking at their backgrounds, many were born in the 1990s; feels like seeing myself from 10 years ago.
Compressing years of research into 3 minutes is ultra-high density. I’d like to conduct good research by utilizing some of this information.

豊田理研の研究交流会に参加。大学って、人々が1〜5年ぐらいしかいなくて、不安定な組織なんですよね。

そこで有機化学の先生の方針が印象的でした。①誰でも取り組める反応を基本にして、研究の継続性を確保します。②優秀な学生が来たら新規開発を進め、そこで独自性を確保します。

この①安定と②革新のバランスは、ものづくりやシステム開発にも通じる普遍的な工夫だと感じました。

Attended Toyota Riken’s research exchange meeting. Universities are unstable organizations where people stay for only about 1-5 years.

The approach of an organic chemistry professor was particularly impressive:

• (1) They base their work on reactions that anyone can undertake, ensuring research continuity.
• (2) When talented students join, they pursue new developments to secure originality.

I felt this balance between (1) stability and (2) innovation is a universal technique that applies to manufacturing and system development as well.

直接の結果はコントロールできませんが、試行回数で成功数は上げられます。シムシティや信長の野望のようなゲーム経験は、リソース管理と期待値向上の点で研究職に活かせます。抽象化により異なるゲームの理解やメンタルの安定にも貢献。

量も大切なのは知ってるので、3日で研究助成申請3本、科研費査読2本、論文指導をこなしました。

While we can’t control direct results, we can increase success by increasing the number of attempts. Gaming experiences like SimCity or Nobunaga’s Ambition can be applied to research careers in terms of resource management and improving expected outcomes. Abstraction contributes to understanding different games and maintaining mental stability.

Knowing the importance of quantity, I completed 3 research grant applications, 2 KAKENHI reviews, and paper supervision in just 3 days.

今日は科研費の学内締切日です。日本の大学は、本番前に学内締切を設定します。この安全策で助かりました！

途中でミスに気づくチャンスの増加が利点です。私も重複申請ルールを見落とし、エラーでヒヤリとしましたが、修正できました。科研費のルールは複雑すぎて、初見では把握困難です。複数回の締切システムに感謝です。

Today is the internal deadline for research grant applications. Our university has set an internal deadline before the official submission date. While one might mistakenly think pre-submission checks are unnecessary, I’m grateful for this safety measure!

When I tried to submit a second application, I couldn’t click the final submission button. The punchline is that two applications weren’t allowed. However, I’ve decided to use the plan I had already thought out for something else. I’m truly thankful for these early deadlines.

夏の雨は気温が下がるので好きです。この一週間は出張がなく、文章系の仕事の処理が進みました。

大学にこもっていた方が、依頼されていた仕事は片付きます。意識的に外回りよりも内勤の時間を作らないと、依頼されていた処理は終わらないです。

I enjoy summer rain as it cools down the temperature. This week, without any business trips, I made progress on my writing-related work.

Working from the university helps me complete the tasks I’ve been assigned. If I don’t consciously prioritize office work over business trips, I won’t be able to complete the assigned tasks.

土曜日に、久しぶりに研究室のOB/OG会を開催しました！前回の開催は2017年でしたね。

現役学生に幹事を務めてもらい、その協力には感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。卒業生の活躍には感動しました。OB/OG会に限らず、大学への訪問はいつでも歓迎します。

On Saturday, we held a long-awaited alumni gathering for our laboratory! The last time we had this event was back in 2017.

We had current lab students organize the event, and I’m incredibly grateful for their cooperation. I was moved by the accomplishments of our graduates. Whether it’s for alumni gatherings or not, visits to the university are always welcome.
